This is the year you are going to make it happen and when making your New Year resolutions you really believe you can do it this time! However, like many people you find the initial enthusiasm lasts for a day or so, maybe even a week. Then something happens and that determination starts to slip and it becomes easier to stay as you are.

But why should that be? Why is it that so many people have amazing dreams of how their lives could be better, whether your goal is stop smoking, lose weight, become more confident or reduce how stressed you always feel? However, somehow they just can't make them come true. Your dreams just seem to slip away, leaving you feeling frustrated and disappointed that you can’t change. Even though you don’t like the way you feel, it is just easier somehow to stick with old habits or stay in a rut rather than embrace change.

Have you ever wondered why your New Years resolutions don’t seem to last? Why the year’s gym membership you have signed up for is only used to February 1st (if you are lucky)? Why you are smoking again just after your New Years Day lunch? The answer is quite simple, it is about habits. We are creatures of habit, our subconscious is on autopilot throughout the day. For example, Breakfast subconsciously relates to having a cigarette, coffee subconsciously relates to having a biscuit (or two), your evening meal subconsciously relates to having chocolate as soon as you finished your meal etc.

We all have habits and unfortunately habits are so hard to break consciously, because they are ingrained into the subconscious (the most powerful part of the mind). You may want to change more than anything, however you always feel like you are fighting against something. And that is exactly what you are doing. Your subconscious mind still wants to eat too much, or smoke, or is not very confident. This makes any change very difficult and in some cases near impossible. That is why generally diets don’t work for weight loss and stopping smoking on your own is notoriously difficult.

This is why in my experience the best way to break a habit and make a change is by using hypnotherapy. As a qualified Hypnotherapist I use suggestion directly to the subconscious mind, which aligns your subconscious with conscious mind and your goal. This allows you to reach your goal easily, effortlessly and naturally. Therefore fulfilling your New Year’s resolution and living your life the way you desire.

If you would like to talk about breaking a habit and making a positive change to your life, instead of making the same New Year resolutions every year - Contact Ali Gatenby on 07875 652338 or ali@desireforchange.co.uk

For further information about Desire for Change and hypnotherapy please go to http://www.desireforchange.co.uk/

Wishing you a very Happy and Healthy 2012.

‘Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.’

what can I expect from hypnotherapy sessions at desire for change?

At desire for change we want our clients to be totally at ease and really enjoy their hypnotherapy sessions. We believe in empowering our clients and giving clients the tools to make the changes they want. Therefore before any hypnotherapy starts we discuss with our clients what their individual requirements and goals are. As well as our fees and number of sessions required, which is confirmed by email with our terms of business.

We encourage clients to have a free initial consultation, which takes about 30 minutes. This initial consultation can be either on the phone or in person. If in person it can be just before the first session or clients can arrange their first session for another time, it is totally up to you. At the first hypnotherapy session the client’s requirements and goals are discussed, looking at how we think affects the way we behave. At desire for change we believe it is important to comprehensively explain the techniques used. This is essential for the client to fully understand what is happening and why, thus allowing them to have confidence in the process and relax.

A full and comprehensive explanation of the session is undertaken so clients know that a trance state was engaged and communication with the subconscious mind did take place. This is important for the follow up session whereby clients usually go much deeper into trance. This enables a deeper relaxation and allowing greater access to the subconscious. Hypnotherapy is a technique that is totally relaxing it should not be surrounded by mystique and misunderstanding.

Most clients have 3 sessions which are usually held at weekly intervals, as this gives the best long term results. If you need more than 3 sessions this will be discussed at the initial consultation, so there will be no surprises. The subconscious mind loves repetition and simple, direct and clean language delivered by a professionally trained hypnotic voice. This allied to a strong desire factor for readiness for change can achieve great results.

As part of our 3 session package we provide a hypnotherapy download or CD once you have completed your sessions.

For some of the testimonals from our clients please go to our website - www.desireforchange.co.uk

If you are interested in hypnotherapy or have any questions about how hypnotherapy can help you, please contact Ali Gatenby on 07875 652338 or ali@desireforchange.co.uk

can't sleep - you are not alone!

I have helped many clients overcome problems of not being able to get a good night’s sleep. We all have the odd night that we can’t sleep or have periods in our lives that sleep is more difficult (i.e. a new baby). However some people just don’t know what it's like to fall asleep when their head hits the pillow and have 8 hours sleep!

Sleep is really important to functioning properly and feeling ourselves. The effects of sleep deprivation can be:

• Fatigue, lethargy, and lack of motivation
• Moodiness and irritability
• Reduced creativity and problem-solving skills
• Inability to cope with stress
• Reduced immunity; frequent colds and infections
• Concentration and memory problems
• Weight gain
• Impaired motor skills and increased risk of accidents
• Difficulty making decisions
• Increased risk of diabetes, heart disease, and other health problems

Hypnotherapy can help you relax and have a good night’s sleep you yearn for. Especially if you are stressed or your mind works overtime as soon as your head hits the pillow.

Nevertheless there are things you can do to help yourself get a good night's sleep:

1. Stick to a schedule. Sticking to a schedule allows your body to set its internal rhythm so your body knows it time to sleep and you consistently get enough sleep every night. Also, make sure you try to keep the same schedule on weekends too; otherwise it will disrupt your internal rhythm.

2. Sleep only at night. Avoid daytime sleep if possible. Daytime naps steal hours from nighttime slumber. If you need to take a nap limit daytime sleep to a 20-minute power nap.

3. Exercise. It’s well known that exercise helps you sleep better. Twenty to thirty minutes of exercise every day can help you sleep, but be sure not to exercise too late in the evening. Exercise stimulates the body and aerobic activity before bedtime may make falling asleep more difficult.

4. Taking a hot shower or bath before bed helps bring on sleep because they can relax tense muscles.

5. Avoid eating just before bed. Give yourself at least 2 hours from when you eat to when you sleep. This allows for digestion to happen (or at least start) well before you go to sleep so your body can rest well during the night, rather than churning away your food.

6. Avoid caffeine. It keeps you awake and that’s not what you want for a good nights sleep. Also if you drink alcohol, keep it to one drink. As one relaxes you, more will stimulate you system and keep you awake.

7. Read a fiction book. It takes you to a whole new world if you really get into it. And then you can take some time to ponder over the book as you fall asleep.

8. Have your bedroom slightly cooler. Do not have your room too warm as this encourages your to wake. Our inner clock wakes when it’s warmer and lighter (i.e. morning).

9. De-clutter your bedroom. Your bedroom should be clutter free and a calming environment. Your bedroom should be for sleeping with no upbeat music or TV.

10. If you can’t sleep don’t worry about it. If you are just lying in bed tossing and turning, don’t get annoyed with yourself. Try getting up for a little while, then going back to bed. Maybe the time you go to bed is too early for you. Some people are larks and others are owls. If you can’t sleep and you may be going to bed earlier and earlier as you are tired. However if you are a night owl this will make it even harder to go to sleep.

One of the important things is not to label yourself as a person who has problems sleeping, the more you do this the more your conscious and unconscious will believe it. Remember you are what you think! You need to relax and not worry about not sleeping.

Hypnotherapy is total relaxation, relaxation of the mind and body. Therefore it is extremely helpful with aiding sleep. I also teach my clients self hypnosis, which is a great tool if you are prone to waking during the night.

If you would like to find out more about how hypnotherapy can help you get the night's sleep you can only wish for. Please contact Ali Gatenby on 07875 652338 or ali@desireforchange.co.uk for a free initial consultation.

weight loss with hypnotherapy
Are you fed up with constantly trying to lose weight? Are you always looking out for the next great diet plan? Do you constantly tell yourself what you can eat and more often than not what you cannot eat? Do you find losing weight the usual uphill struggle and battle?

Weight loss for some can be never ending, each new diet or new re-cycled diet offers the same feelings of being deprived and that you are missing out! Unfortunately all these diets works on the starvation principle of some sort, either by drastically reduced calories, or cutting out whole food groups. Whichever diet you choose it's a recipe for disaster. This is because diets slow down the metabolism, after 4 days of a diet (starvation) the body shuts down and goes into starvation mode protecting the very calories you are trying to loose.

When your metabolism slows right down, you feel lethargic and crave the sugary and fatty foods. Then when you start eating again the weight piles back on and with a slower metabolism the pounds will keep piling back on. Anybody been there before??

With all these fad diets being splashed across all forms of media we do not get to hear what dieticians and experts are trying to tell us, that the body likes and needs fat, it serves a useful propose. It supplies us with a food store that we need for healthy skin, hormones, nervous system and it also keeps us warm. Furthermore the subconscious mind still acts as if we were in the cave and we have a need for fat.

The main problem with diets is that none of them address your relationship to food, which is the underlining reason why most people just can't lose and maintain their weight. Overeating is often associated with emotional issues that are still there after you have dieted and it's these emotional issues which contribute to putting the weight back on.

Hypnotherapy & Desire for Change can help you lose weight easily, safely & without dieting. We help you to understand why you are overeating, realign your mind and body so you eat what your body needs. By using hypnotherapy, I can help you uncover the emotional issues which were producing this effect. Making emotional overeating a thing of the past, which will enable you to keep the weight off and feel good about yourself.

Everybody knows what we should and shouldn't eat. We understand that a balanced healthy diet is the best way to maintain a healthy weight. However the key is feeling good about doing it. Unfortunately we live in an age where we want easy, instant miracle diets offering absurd amounts of weight loss in a matter of days or weeks. You won’t be able to lose weight long term this way, you will just be on a constant yo-yo diet, which is extremely bad for your health. I have helped many clients to lose weight who have tried every diet under the sun and feel bad about themselves as they just can't lose weight!

To make these true, permanent changes in your life, it is necessary to get your subconscious mind in agreement with what you want to accomplish, rather than fighting and struggling to work against it. Hypnosis will have you wanting to eat the right kinds of foods, wanting to drink more water and wanting to be more active. Hypnosis is a process whereby you can work with the body and feel good about doing the things that you know you should be doing. Once you are into a rhythm the weight comes off, slowly, naturally, safely and stays off.

The desire for change approach will inspire confidence and self esteem. This serves to increase the likelihood of the client continuing with these new behavioural patterns long after the therapy has finished. However, for the therapy to be effective the most important thing is your desire to lose weight and to keep it off. Every client is given their own personal CD or download of their session to listen to at home. This will help you to maintain your new lifestyle.

Lose weight once not a hundred times!!

For further information and book a free initial consultation - please visit www.desireforchange.co.uk or email ali@desireforchange.co.uk

hypnotherapy can change your life!

Being a Hypnotherapist is really rewarding. I meet the most interesting people and love getting emails and letters from clients telling me how they are getting on since their hypnotherapy sessions.

Below are two testimonials showing how hypnotherapy can really change your life!

Charlotte - Confidence

“I've always had problems with confidence and even though I've done alright career wise so far - I've always let my own lack of self- esteem hold me back. I went to see Ali as I was on garden leave between roles and I wanted to start my new job with the best mindset possible. My experience with Ali was fantastic as not only did the hypnotherapy really help me get my mind focused for my new job - she also imparted loads of wisdom and made me realise that the only person who thought I wasn't good enough was in fact me. Since seeing Ali I've actually moved on roles again to a much bigger and better company and you know what - that new found confidence in the interview with that company I put down to the mindset change I have had since seeing Ali....

I was still pretty scared before the interview, but I made sure I was prepared and kept re-enforcing positive thoughts by playing my CD from Ali and you know what? They rang and offered me the job within an hour! I've been here a few weeks now and gave my first presentation to my leadership team this morning - WITHOUT blushing, stuttering or generally making a fool of myself.

If you're thinking about giving hypnotherapy a go... absolutely do it.. and do it with Ali. Her reassuring manner and wide-ranging experience of pretty much everything has really helped me on my path to where I want to be. Thank you Ali”

Anoop – Stop Smoking

“Having smoked for about 20 years, I really wanted to quit for the sake of my health and my family. I never thought it would be possible to have a 1 hour meeting and walk away as a permanent non-smoker - but that is exactly what happened to me almost 5 months ago! I feel cleaner, fresher, more alert and I've regained my taste buds (I also visit cash machines less frequently and drink less alcohol). Like anything new, Hypnotherapy did make me feel a little nervous at first. However, it is nothing to be afraid of - just let yourself go. Also, the 2 follow up sessions are great to reinforce the messages. If you are serious about giving up smoking, i.e. you WANT to quit (don't think you "should" quit), pluck up the courage and contact Ali.” Thank you Anoop

For your free initial consultation to find out how hypnotherapy can change your life.

Contact Ali on ali@desireforchange.co.uk or 07875 652338

is low self esteem holding you back?

Do you feel you have low self esteem and confidence, and it’s holding you back?

Do you feel everyone else has more confidence than you?

If so you are definitely not alone! The media doesn’t help as we are all being bombarded with perfect images of confidence people looking amazing, strong and in control, making you feel even worse!

Well there are many different causes behind low confidence or self esteem. It may be that your parents were too critical of you as a child (and even today as an adult), or a teacher embarrassed you in front of the class, or you made a mistake at work. It may be that you feel that it's part of your make-up. You are just someone who is shy and has low confidence. It’s just the way you are!

However, self esteem is not the way you are, it's your perception of what happens to you that makes the difference. It may be your perception that in a debate with your peers you may lose an argument and feel your confidence or self esteem has been dented.

Nevertheless another person might lose the argument, but manage to keep their confidence and self esteem intact. It really does depend on how you view life and how that makes you feel.

The good news is once you realise that you do have some control over the way you think about your life, you can then start to redirect your perceptions to a more positive and healthier conclusion. Remember that people with confidence and a healthy self esteem have life's events happening to them as well. It’s how you deal with those events that make the difference.

If you have learnt to knock yourself and be critical of anything you do, and if your inner voice is always saying you are not good enough, then how can you expect to have a good self image and strong self confidence? There are enough people ready to criticise others or you without you joining in! So start giving yourself more compliments and not be so hard on yourself. When things go well, take credit and encourage your self-belief.

I am finding I am seeing a lot of clients with self esteem and confidence issues. The good news is that hypnotherapy can help you build self esteem and confidence. At desire for change we can help you find the cause of your lack of confidence or help your change your perception of what happens to you. Once this has happened we will help you to view your life in a different way, allowing you to recognise that you have control over how you perceive what happens in your life. A lack of confidence can really restrict your life and stop you from grasping the opportunities that come your way. A confident person makes opportunities and as a result has a more fulfilling life.

I have had great results with hypnotherapy helping my clients with extremely low self esteem, social phobia, no confidence and feeling anxious all the time. Hypnotherapy has helped them live the life they want and desire.

‘I can’t believe how hypnotherapy has improved my confidence. I used to get so nervous and had no confidence in company meetings. Actually I dreaded them! Now I go into meetings feeling confident and in control. Thank you Ali’.
Mat – Sindlesham

‘I always felt anxious and that I wasn’t as good as anyone else. I didn’t have any confidence and my self esteem was rock bottom. I felt my self esteem and confidence were far lower than my friends. That was until I met Ali, her kindness and understanding really helped me. Hypnotherapy was so relaxing and calming, I felt different after my first session. I know believe in myself and am able to deal with my inner feelings.’
Barbara - Reading

If you suffer with low self esteem and confidence, please contact me to discuss how I can help you and arrange a free initial 30 minute consultation to discuss how hypnotherapy can help you.

Contact details:
Tel - 07875 652338
Email - ali@desireforchange.co.uk

Ali Gatenby
B.Sc (Hons), Dip H, Dip NLP, Dip N, Cert SM, GHR (reg)

50% off hypnotherapy training courses

SPECIAL OFFER: 50% off Hypnotherapy Training Courses.
Only £875 instead of £1,700. When daydreaming we drift in and out of hypnotic states all day long without being aware of it. Under hypnosis we are capable of making significant changes to our thinking patterns, unlocking unlimited potential to improve and transform our lives. The key is your comment to truly wanting to make a change in your life permanently.

The main concern people have about hypnotherapy is not being in control, however you are in control at all times as all hypnosis is self hypnosis. A qualified hypnotherapist guides and empowers you throughout the hypnotic process. Hypnosis is a focused state of total relaxation, it allows you to become mentally and physically relaxed. Once totally relaxed your subconscious mind can achieve incredible transformations for beneficial purposes. Working together we create positive and therapeutic changes to enable you live the life you desire.

Hypnotherapy is natural and safe with no side effects, you just feel wonderfully relaxed and calm. All you need to do is sit comfortably, close your eyes and listen to my voice. Virtually everyone can be hypnotised, all you need is the desire to make a change and allow yourself to be guided into this wonderful and relaxing state. You can not go into hypnosis against your will.

If you ask my clients what a hypnotic session is like, the common answer is it’s a very relaxing, calming and positive experience, as I mentioned before it’s a totally natural state. Even though there are common answers, everyone has a personal experience unique to themselves. Some clients feel very light, others feel very heavy and even a mixture of both as they drift through the stages of hypnosis. When you drift off to sleep at night you normally drift between a light to medium to deep trance state, before you actually fall asleep. These too are the hypnotic states you experience with hypnosis and you never actually fall asleep in your sessions.

With hypnotherapy the light to deep trance state is used, after your session you will feel rested and refreshed and ready to continue with your day. You will generally feel better and be able to deal with any situation in a much calmer and more confident way. As a result of feeling more relaxed and less tense in your physical body and you will function better, feeling stress free in your environment. Giving you more energy, allowing your mind to be clear and more focused and you will be able to concentrate more on whatever you are doing. Hypnotherapy is very enjoyable and totally relaxing, allow yourself to have some special quality time just for you!

Hypnotherapy and desire for change can help you lose weight, stop smoking, be more confident, cope with stress, overcome phobias and many other issues.

For a free initial consultation to discuss how hypnotherapy can help you please contact me on 07875 652338 or ali@desireforchange.co.uk

Ali Gatenby
B.Sc (Hons), Dip H, Dip NLP, Dip N, Cert SM, GHR (reg)

For more information go to www.desireforchange.co.uk

national non-smoking day - 9th March

Have you tried to give up smoking before and just found it too hard? Is it the cravings, or is it breaking the habit of smoking, or is it the only thing that relaxes you? Well there is an answer.

At desire for change we understand how difficult it is to stop smoking. It is not surprising as each cigarette you smoke releases over 4,000 chemicals into your bloodstream and over 50 of them are known to cause cancer (carcinogenic). Also many of these chemicals are designed to keep you hooked and wanting more! Hypnotherapy is a highly effective way of becoming a non-smoker, as it helps you to focus on your desire to stop smoking, as well helping to you totally relax. ‘Hypnosis is the most effective way of giving up smoking, according to the largest ever scientific comparison of ways of breaking the habit. Willpower, it turns out, counts for very little’. (New Scientist, Volume 136 issue 1845 31 Oct 1992, page 6)

At desire for change we use a tried and trusted method to ensure results for our clients that last. Stop smoking hypnotherapy sessions are therefore booked, as a block of 3. At the first stop smoking hypnotherapy session the habit is broken. It does not matter how many you used to smoke a day or for how long you have smoked. All you need is a high desire factor for the stop smoking hypnotherapy suggestions to work. Subconscious hypnotherapy programming for stop smoking works if you want the suggestions to work. The reality is that there are no easy quick fixes and you cannot make anyone do something that they do not want to do. The two follow up sessions will empower you to become a non-smoker for life, also to reinforce those sessions we will also include a CD or download of your last session.

Using Hypnotherapy for stop smoking is a state of enhanced physical and mental relaxation, which allows stop smoking Hypnotherapy suggestions access to the subconscious mind, which is where they work by realigning your feelings to a more positive state. They work because they change your feelings towards smoking. You feel better being a non-smoker. Also you will not replace smoking with eating or drinking too much, so you won’t have the fear of putting on weight. Smoking becomes a thing of the past and you forget all about it.

One of the reasons hypnotherapy is so effective is that it utilises readiness for change. Therefore whether you are stopping smoking for health reasons, financial reasons or the sake of your family, as long as you have decided to give up and are ready to change, hypnosis is for you.

What my client’s have to say:

"Having smoked for about 20 years, I really wanted to quit for the sake of my health and my family. If you are serious about giving up smoking, i.e. you WANT to quit (don't think you "should" quit), pluck up the courage and contact Ali." Thank you Anoop

“I thought I would never give up smoking! Even with bad health (high blood pressure, high cholesterol and needing to lose weight), I still couldn’t do it on my own. I was a bit skeptical about whether hypnotherapy could really help me be a non-smoker. Once I met Ali and she explained how hypnotherapy worked, I just knew it would work. I have now been a non-smoker for nearly two years and I am feeling healthier and fitter than I have been for years. If you have been thinking about giving up smoking or having hypnotherapy I would definitely recommend Ali”. Kind regards James

“Ali I just wanted to thank you for you help in making me a non-smoker. I really enjoyed my sessions and I can’t believe after years of smoking I am now a non-smoker. I feel more confident, healthier and as a Mum this is really important to me”. Thanks Janet

Let this years National non-smoking day on 9th March 2011 be date you take the first step of becoming a non-smoker. Everyone wants an instant fix and going under the knife doesn’t put people off. However restricting what you can eat to that extreme is not a healthy way to live you life. Also it doesn’t address the problem of why a person overeats to such extremes. However there is a new flavour of the month hitting the headlines – Gastric band hypnotherapy.

Whether it’s gastric band hypnotherapy or the more extreme gastric band surgery, restricting your calories to such a degree and losing weight quickly can this really be good for your health? Many hypnotherapists are now jumping on the gastric band-wagon promoting gastric band hypnotherapy. So what does it do?

By severely restricting food intake to the stomach, weight is lost quickly just the same as on an extreme diet. Haven’t we been here before though? The relationship to food which is vital to long-term, sensible, healthy weight loss is not addressed. Therefore once the band is removed (mentally or physically) the weight goes straight back on again. The same old weight loss /gain yo-yo effect. Which we all know now is extremely bad for our health.

Even worse with gastric by-pass surgery you are restricted to liquid mash potato diet for life. At Desire for Change we use hypnotherapy to address your relationship with food. After all it’s a life long relationship. We help you to know when you are full, eat less and more healthily. Furthermore this will seem so easy and natural, food will just not have the same pull it used to.

By addressing why you over eat you will eat in a healthier manner, the way you know you should. The difference is you feel like doing it. Eating what you need to as opposed to what you want to. Giving you slow gradual weight loss that lasts and is safe.

For more information please visit - www.desireforchange.co.uk

hypnotherapy diploma training courses

desire for change and weller associates will be running hypnotherapy diploma courses in Swindon and Chessington.

Wishing you a very Happy and Healthy 2011.

‘Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.’

myths that hamper healthy eating

We can have beliefs that have been programmed into us by the media and friends. Here are some myths that hamper healthy eating.

Myth: Certain foods, like grapefruit, celery, or cabbage soup, can burn fat and make you lose weight.
Fact: No foods can burn fat. Some foods with caffeine may speed up your metabolism for a short time, but they do not cause weight loss. The best way to lose weight is to cut back on the number of calories you eat and be more physically active.

Myth: Skipping meals is a good way to lose weight.
Fact: Studies show that people who skip breakfast and eat fewer times during the day tend to be heavier than people who eat a healthy breakfast and eat four or five times a day. This may be because people who skip meals tend to feel hungrier later on, and eat more than they normally would. Eating 4 or 5 times a day throughout the day helps your blood sugar levels and this helps you to control your appetite.

Myth: Eating after 8 p.m. causes weight gain.
Fact: It does not matter what time of day you eat. It is what and how much you eat and how much physical activity you do during the day that determines whether you gain, lose, or maintain your weight. No matter when you eat, your body will store extra calories as fat. If you want to have a snack before bedtime, think first about how many calories you have eaten that day and if you are really hungry. Try to avoid snacking in front of the TV at night; it is easier to overeat when you are distracted.

Myth: Lifting weights are not good to do if you want to lose weight, because it will make you ‘bulk up’.
Fact: Lifting weights or doing strengthening activities like push-ups and crunches on a regular basis can actually help you maintain or lose weight. These activities can help you build muscle and muscle burns more calories than body fat. Therefore if you have more muscle, you burn more calories, even when you are sitting down. Doing strengthening activities 2 or 3 days a week will not ‘bulk you up’. This will only happen with intense strength training, combined with a certain genetic background. In addition doing at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity, (for example fast pace walking) most week days. Strength training can be lifting weights, using resistance bands, doing push-ups or sit-ups, or every day things like doing housework or garden tasks that make you lift or dig.

Myth: Nuts are fattening and you should not eat them if you want to lose weight.
Fact: In small amounts, nuts can be part of a healthy weight loss program. Nuts are high in calories and fat. However, most nuts contain healthy fats that do not clog arteries. Nuts are also good sources of protein, dietary fibre, and minerals including magnesium and copper. A 30g portion of mixed nuts has about 185 calories.

Myth: Exercise on an empty stomach and burn more fat.
Fact: Effective weight loss is the total amount of calories burned during the day, not how or why they were burned. It doesn’t matter if its morning or evening, so exercise early in the day has no advantage to exercise later in the day. Studies show that increased metabolism induced by anaerobic exercise is actually less after a large meal. This probably means that more energy is being used for digestion than what is being used to repair muscle.

For permanent weight loss that doesn't feel like you are on a diet, try hypnotherapy. This ‘alliance’ between client and therapist, at all stages of any treatment programme, ensures that methods used and the goals agreed upon will always be fully discussed.

So how does it work? Firstly clients need a strong desire factor to change, be in the right mindset. In other words have ‘readiness for change’. It is important to test that desire factor because we want all our clients to reach their goals and make the changes they want in their lives.

Our approach, along with testing the desire factor for change, has been found to greatly enhance the effectiveness of our approach to hypnotherapy. This enables our clients to change their behaviours on a long term basis.

desire for change has a tried and tested approach to helping clients reach their goals. To make changes to our lives can be very difficult, whether it is the way we eat, to stop smoking, or resolve an irrational fear. Many issues can become habitual, and to psychologically break these habits takes 21 days. It makes sense that if you have had a phobia or smoked for years, one session will not give you the results you desire, or deserve. Furthermore, hypnotherapy helps the client to be totally relax, mentally and physically. This is only truly met in your second and third session. This allows, with suggestion, the changes you need to your subconscious mind. For these reasons desire for change uses a highly effective 3 session plan, over a 3 week period enabling clients to truly relax and change. In fact for the majority of individuals dieting simply does not work. Instead of leading to permanent weight loss, diets in the long-term seem to progressively make matters worse. The truth is that dieting without changing habits and addressing emotional issues actually leave you heavier than when you originally started. The issue of emotional eating needs to be addressed in order to lose weight long-term. Whereas hypnodieting addresses emotional issues and realigns the way we think and feel about food and ourselves.

Hypnodieting is definitely not the same as being on a diet. As a diet has a start and an end, restricts calories, bans certain foods and doesn’t acknowledge your emotional relationship with food. Hypnodieting shows you how to control your attitude to food and how to gain complete control over how you look and feel. At Hypnodieting Online we will show you how you can lose weight, feel good about yourself and not have food and weight loss on your mind all the time.

Whether you find you just can't lose weight or you've tried 'every diet' going and just can't keep the weight off. Our unique 'hypnodieting' sessions are delivered online by experienced hypnotherapists for your convenience. We use state of the art technology to deliver high quality hypnotherapy sessions for weight loss and management at a click of a button.

It doesn't matter how much weight you need to lose. With hypnodieting you will lose weight easily, effortlessly and naturally. It's easy to see why hypnodieting is attracting a lot of attention and why people are starting to see it their first (and last) choice for weight loss and management.

Unfortunately people waste a lot of time and money trying different 'miracle' diets. They constantly fight a losing battle with their body, which takes a heavy toll on their confidence and self-esteem. However, the battle we have when trying to lose weight is not with our body, it's with our mind and our emotions. Being happy with your body is about being happy with yourself and hypnodieting Online understands this.

Hypnodieting helps align your subconscious mind with your goal of losing weight and keeping it off. Allowing us to naturally eat smaller portions, stopping us snacking between meals and no longer have food dominate our thoughts. Also our approach will inspire your confidence and self-esteem, helping you to feel better about yourself and continue with these new behavioural patterns long after the therapy has finished.

Our unique 'hypnodieting' sessions give you access to experienced hypnotherapists in the comfort of your own home. We offer our very popular live group sessions, just pick the date that suits you best, or our pre-recorded session that you can listen to anytime of the day or night! Our easy to use system even has a great chat room facility with our live group sessions that enables you to communicate with your hypnotherapist. The whole process couldn't be any easier and more convenient. It’s a great alternative to visiting a hypnotherapist, which a lot of people just can not afford. It is also more personal than using a download.

Remember, hypnodieting is not about dieting; it's about your emotional relationship towards eating, food and ourselves. After all, if you're like so many people trying so lose weight, you know what you are doing that is preventing you losing weight and what foods you should be eating less of and the foods you should be eating more of. What you don't know, is why you can't change!

Whatever your needs, we have a service that is perfect for you. Our services are high quality, highly effective and great value for money. We also send all our clients a free audio hypnodieting download for you to listen to after your hypnotherapy session online and a comprehensive 37 page weight loss guide that looks at weight loss in a completely different way.

For more information about hypnodieting, weight loss and hypnotherapy, please visit our website www.hypnodietingonline.co.uk or email enquiries@hypnodietingonline.co.uk

can hypnotherapy improve my confidence & self esteem?

Do you feel you have low confidence and it is holding you back? Do you feel everyone else has more confidence than you? Well there are many varied causes behind low confidence or self esteem. It may be that your parents were too critical of you as a child, or a teacher embarrassed you in front of the class, or you made a mistake at work. It may be that you feel that it's part of your make-up. You are just someone who is shy and has low confidence.

Branden (1969) defined self esteem as: ‘Confidence in our ability to think, confidence in our ability to cope with the basic challenge of life’. (Self efficacy). Confidence is our right to be successful and happy, the feeling of being worthy, deserving, entitled to assert our needs and wants. Achieve our values’. (Self respect).

The connection between self-efficacy and self respect are our actions and behaviour (self efficacy) affects our feeling about ourselves (self respect). Which in turn affects our Behaviour. Therefore it’s your perception of what happens to you that makes the difference. It may be your perception that in a debate with your peers you may lose an argument and feel your confidence or self esteem has been dented. However another person might lose the argument, but manage to keep their confidence and self esteem intact.

It is how you deal with those events that make the difference.

If you have learnt to knock yourself and be critical of anything you do, and if your inner voice is always saying you are not good enough, then how can you expect to have a good self image and strong self confidence? There are enough people ready to criticise others or you without you joining their side. So start giving yourself more compliments when things go well to encourage your self belief.

The good news is that hypnotherapy can help you build confidence. A confident person makes opportunities and as result have a more fulfilling life.

To book your free initial consultation please contact Ali Gatenby on 07875 652338 or ali@desireforchange.co.uk

what should I know about my hypnotherapy training provider?

Important information you should know about hypnotherapy training courses.

The more organisations that recognise the hypnotherapy training course the better it is?
This is not so. A recognised body (there are several) that can independently validate the quality of training to set criteria and standards is enough. Their validation allows the training to award a diploma, which means that indemnity can be acquired which is a legal requirement to be able to practise and charge fees.

The more awards we give you the better the hypnotherapy training
In the real world what matters, when you are running a practise is having the skill set from a hypnotherapy diploma that allows you to be effective, within the actual work streams that will be presented to you. Most work streams for hypnotherapy are based on smoking, weight loss and anxiety. Anxiety underpins most if not all of the work. Also phobias and whatever your chosen market is.

Even more important is having the tool kit to be able to attract clients and build up your skill levels and professionalism. Most clients are referred to you from other clients who have experienced successful outcomes working with you.

Hypnotherapy is a practical profession and results driven. Full time hypnotherapists who are the minority are self-employed. Some training providers advertise training in other areas, to attract more students. Unfortunately this is invariably outside their own areas of expertise.

HPD is the finest qualification in the land for hypnotherapy training
This is often touted by training schools that offer it. HPD "training" is not really further training at all, as it rather relies upon the submission of a portfolio of varied material - scarcely viable evidence of either superior training or resultant superior practitioners. It often duplicates the diploma, which you are studying for.

HPD will be required for hypnotherapy training due to forthcoming regulation
This is not so. Regulation of any type has yet to be agreed. There is absolutely no link between the need for HPD to be able to practise and any forthcoming regulation.

HPD is the only externally verified and independent hypnotherapy training in the land
HPD has been created by the NCH and is marked and assessed by them as such after a trainer has marked it. The NCFE produces the award. In our experience not all portfolios are actually assessed. It is totally theory based.

The more hours the better the hypnotherapy training?
This is not so. Quality not quantity is key. If a training provider knows the business and what they are doing. In addition to providing the number of hours required without unnecessary excess and no more, you will be able you to practise successfully. Especially if free coaching back up and support has been provided.

For further information about desire for change & Weller Associates hypnotherapy training go to http://desireforchange.co.uk/hypnotherapy_training_Reading_hypnotherapy.aspx

self-sabotage and weight loss

If the way we think (consciously or unconsciously) is not inline with our weight loss goals it is near impossible to lose and maintain our weight. Our thoughts allow us to self-sabotage our goals and most of the time we do this unconsciously.

We self-sabotage in different ways:

Just this once…
If you divide food into ‘good’ and ‘bad’, sooner or later you will be tempted to tuck into ‘bad food’ - chocolate, biscuits, crisps, chips. You indulge yourself ‘just this once’ and then feel guilty, it’s very likely that you will go on to either eat another biscuit or bag of crisps or believe that you have ruined your diet and give up.

I can’t eat…
Rather like the above, if ‘naughty’ or ‘bad’ foods are strictly forbidden, not only will your diet be boring. You may also be tempted to restrict your food intake so much that you are not eating a varied diet and enough calories.

I can’t waste food…
Many of us were told as children to eat everything on our plates and not waste food. If you are eating out, you feel you should eat everything served to you (even if it is a massive portion). Well you are paying for the food! If you think about it, if you leave some chips or some of your meal, how much money do you really think you are wasting? Anyway, a big part of going out is enjoying the atmosphere and good company.

My husband/children like biscuits/crisps…
So who is in control here? You do have a choice. Your friends won’t fall out with you if you don’t offer them a biscuit when they pop around for a coffee.

But I’m so hungry…
Are you really? There are two issues here. Many people mistake thirst for hunger. Make sure you drink enough, have a glass of water before reaching for food and wait 20 minutes. Then, the chances are you will have forgotten your desire for food. If you are really hungry, look at your diet. When did you last eat? Did you include complex carbohydrates? Are there certain foods that seem to cause fluctuations in blood sugar? For example: foods high in sugar.

I always eat when I’m…
This is the big one! Most people who have issues around food are emotional eaters, and eat when they are bored, sad, stressed, happy - (what's the story you tell yourself?).

Hypnotherapy is a great way of realigning the way we think with the goals we set. Allowing weight loss to feel easy, natural and effortless. It's not a diet, it's a new way of thinking about food.

For more information about how hypnotherapy can help you lose weight and keep it off permanently please visit www.desireforchange.co.uk

To book your free initial consultation please contact Ali Gatenby on 07875 652338 or ali@desireforchange.co.uk

you really want to stop smoking...

... but you tried to give up smoking before and just found it too hard!

The ftwo follow up sessions will empower you to become a non-smoker for life, also to reinforce those sessions we will also include a CD or download of your last session.

For a free initial 30 minute consultation or for more information either email enquiries@desireforchange.co.uk or visit www.desireforchange.co.uk

hypnodieting is not a diet

A hypnodiet is definitely not the same as being on a diet. At hypnodiet.co.uk we will show you how you can lose weight easily, effortlessly and naturally and understand how to keep it off permanently.

Whether you find you just can't lose weight or you've tried 'every diet' going and just can't keep the weight off. However, the battle we have when trying to lose weight is not with our body, it's with our mind and our emotions. Being happy with your body is about being happy with yourself and hypnodiet.co.uk understands this.

At hypnodiet.co.uk you will first go through a thorough and in-depth consultation with a highly qualified hypnotherapist, who also has a deep understanding of nutrition and human emotion and behaviour. This will help end the frustration that you feel when you know what you 'ought to' eat, but think about what you 'want to' eat, but you 'just can't change'.

Remember, hypnodieting is not about dieting, it's about your emotional relationship toward eating and food. After all, if you're like so many people trying so lose weight, you know what you are doing that is preventing you losing weight and what foods you should eat less of and the foods you should eating more of. What you don't know, is why you can't change.

With our tried and tested 3 session method, you will be encouraged and supported as you develop and maintain a sound new relationship with food and a new healthy attitude to eating. Hypnodieting will change the way you feel and think about food easily, naturally and effortlessly. This can lead people to believe that they could be controlled or made to do something they didn’t want to. In fact the person on stage is a willing volunteer and could stop being one at any time they decided. Hypnosis for therapeutic purposes is totally different as it is about relaxation and while in this relaxed state you may feel heavy and lethargic, or quite light and tingly. It's just a wonderful, deeply pleasant and relaxing experience. What's more at all times you remain in control and are perfectly awake. At any point in the therapy session you can open your eyes and bring yourself out of hypnosis if you wish.

Hypnosis is a natural trance like state, which everyone moves in and out of throughout the day. Many of our normal everyday activities are actually achieved while in a trance like state, without us really being aware of it. It's not that you are oblivious to everything; it's just that you have tuned out all of the unimportant things around you. You may have experienced this while driving or reading a good book. Your mind slows down, you are just focusing on one thing, your breathing is slower and you are more relaxed. Some refer to it as being on autopilot or daydreaming!

Hypnosis is a restful state of total relaxation and heightened awareness; the process of allowing yourself access to the abilities of your subconscious mind. The subconscious is the most dominant part of your mind. It stores every event in your life that you have ever heard, seen or felt. The subconscious acts the way it’s been conditioned to act. Unfortunately much of this occurred before we were old enough to choose between events that were helpful and those that were not. Hypnosis acts as a key to your mind. As you enter the hypnotic state your senses become more acute, and your concentration becomes more focused on the positive changes that you want in your life.

The whole process is non-addictive, completely safe and natural. It’s not possible to get stuck in hypnosis, it’s just a heightened relaxed state that allows you to make the changes you really want in your life. While hypnotised you will find it easier to accept beneficial suggestions (e.g. “you will now believe in yourself” or “you will stop eating once you are full”) and help you maximise your potential using your inner resources to effect beneficial changes. Each session is client-orientated and tailored to you as an individual. During the hypnosis you will be able to speak, to answer questions and recall everything that takes place.

For further information please contact Ali Gatenby on 07875 652338 or email ali@desireforchange.co.uk

hypnotherapy sessions & what to expect

At desire for change we want our clients to be totally at ease and believe in empowering our clients. Therefore before any hypnotherapy starts we discuss with our clients what their individual requirements and goals are. As well as our fees and number of sessions required. Which is confirmed by email with our terms of business, which includes directions to the practise where there is plenty of parking.

We encourage clients to have a free initial consultation, which takes about 30 minutes. This initial consultation can be either on the phone or in person. If in person it can be just before the first session or clients can arrange their first session for another time. At the first hypnotherapy session the client’s requirements and goals are discussed, looking at how we think affects the way we behave .

This is important for the follow up session whereby clients usually go much deeper into trance thus enjoying the quality relaxation and allowing greater access to the subconscious. Technique not mystique being the order of the day.

Most clients have 3 session which are usually held at weekly intervals, which works best. The subconscious mind loves repetition and simple, direct and clean language delivered by a professionally trained hypnotic voice. This allied to a strong desire factor for readiness for change can achieve great results.

As part of our 3 session package we provide a hypnotherapy download once you have completed your sessions.

If you are interested in hypnotherapy or have any questions about how hypnotherapy can help you, please contact Ali Gatenby on 07875 652338 or ali@desireforchange.co.uk

Anxiety

Everyone experiences feelings of anxiety during their lifetime. It is a normal response to feel worried and anxious about situations like; sitting an examination or having a medical test or job interview. However, for people anxiety can become more severe (generalised anxiety disorder), where feelings of anxiety are much more constant and tend to affect their day-to-day life.

As with most conditions which affect your mental health, the exact cause of generalised anxiety disorder is not fully understood. Some people develop the condition for no apparent reason. Other people may develop anxiety following a major stressful incident or event.

Anxiety is most likely to have a complex combination of causes, and the condition is not just triggered by an imbalance of brain chemicals. Researchers believe that the condition is caused by a combination of factors including your:

*body's biological processes
*genetics
*environment
*life experience

As a hypnotherapist I find that anxiety underpins most, if not all of the work I do. Anxiety is free range, people feel anxious about being anxious, and anxious if they are not anxious, so that the anxiety returns and anxiety starts to feel ‘normal’. Many may not even understand why they are feeling anxious. Anxiety can drain you of energy, you always feel tired. Hypnotherapy can help you feel calmer and more in control, therefore increased energy levels and relief of tiredness.

Side effects of stress and anxiety include the need to move from pain to pleasure so people may eat more. Hypnotherapy can address this helping you to eat less by realigning your relationship to food without feeling as if you are on a diet. Helping you to lose the weight gained from overeating and not having the energy to exercise.

Anxiety may be caused by having to engage in public speaking when you have never done this before or you may have a fear of flying. Hypnotherapy is extremely effective in addressing these issues.

If you have any questions regarding anxiety please feel free to contact me by either visiting www.desireforchange.co.uk or emailing ali@desireforchange.co.uk

stop smoking and become a non-smoker!

The ftwo follow up sessions will empower you to become a non-smoker for life, also to reinforce those sessions we will also include a CD or download of your last session.

For a free initial 30 minute consultation or for more information either email enquiries@desireforchange.co.uk or visit www.desireforchange.co.uk

hypnotherapy weight loss

Are you constantly trying to lose weight? Are you always looking out for the next great diet plan? Do you constantly tell yourself what you can and more often than not what you cannot eat? Do you find losing weight the usual uphill struggle and battle?

Weight loss for some can be never ending, each new diet or new re-cycled diet offers the same feelings of being deprived and that you are missing out! Unfortunately all these diet works on the starvation principle of some sort, either by drastically reduced calories, or cutting out whole food groups. Whichever diet you choose it's a recipe for disaster. This is not surprising when you look at the word diet, the first 3 letters are DIE. In other words the death of your metabolism.

The other problem with diets is that none of them address your relationship to food, which is the underlining reason why most people just can't lose and maintain their weight.

For further information please visit www.desireforchange.co.uk or email ali@desireforchange.co.uk

common questions on training and training providers

For further information about desire for change & Weller Associates hypnotherapy training go to http://desireforchange.co.uk/hypnotherapy_training_Reading_hypnotherapy.aspx

some facts about stop smoking

The results of numerous trials both in Europe and the USA have suggested that hypnosis is the most effective way to stop smoking (New Scientist 31.10.92. p6).

The American Journal of Clinical Hypnotherapy (1968) published a report that showed that 94% of patients that were able stop smoking through hypnosis were still not smoking 18 months later. The International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis (1970) cites a study with 88% reporting success after one year.

A recent study from the University of Iowa published in the Journal of Applied Psychology cites 48 studies of hypnosis covering 6,000 smokers. The results clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of stop smoking with hypnosis. (New Scientist vol 136 issue 1845 p6).

To find the most effective method to stop smoking, Frank Schmidt and research student Chockalingham Viswesvaran from the University of Iowa conducted a meta-analysis, bringing together the results of more than 600 studies totalling nearly 72,000 people. The results, which were published in the Journal of Applied Psychology and included 48 studies of hypnosis covering 6,000 smokers, clearly showed that hypnosis was three times more effective than Nicotine Replacement.

Hypnosis is the most effective way of giving up smoking, according to the largest ever scientific comparison of ways of breaking the habit. Willpower, it turns out, counts for very little". (New Scientist, Vol 136 issue 1845 31 Oct 92, page 6).

According to Freedom from tobacco "93% of Nicotine patch users fail within a half year. They may temporarily cover up the effect of nicotine but they don't cover the pschological component of smoking". (Freedom From Tobacco - Quit Smoking Now.htm)

1. Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) - Replacement nicotine delivered by the patch, gum, lozenge, spray or inhaler comes from the exact same tobacco plant as nicotine in cigarettes. Clinical efficacy and real-world effectiveness are two different standards. What those selling NRT fail to reveal is that in no real-world quitting methods survey to date (California, Minn., Quebec, London, Maryland, Australia) have those using NRT performed better than those quitting without it. A 2003 study combined and averaged the 7 OTC nicotine patch and gum studies. It found that only 7% were still not smoking at 6 months. It gets worse. A 1993 study (Tonnesen) found that 0% of second-time patch users succeeded in quitting for 6 months and a 1995 study (Gourlay) reported a 1.6% six-month quitting rate.

2. Zyban - Zyban (bupropion) is a dopamine uptake inhibitor in pill form. In all real-world use surveys to date it has yet to perform better than those quitting without it, at rates similar to NRT.

3. Chantix - 2006 studies boast a 1 in 5 one-year quit smoking rate, but were inflated by 16 one-on-one counselling sessions and telephone support. Real-world use rates will be substantially lower.

Research by The New Scientist Magazine (1992) has shown hypnotherapy to be the safest and quickest way to quit smoking. People were six times more likely to quit with one session of hypnosis and remain non-smokers over 12 months after their session, compared to those who used Nicotine Replacement Therapy.

The advantage of hypnosis is that it removes the dependency and craving of quitting without risking the side effects of rashes and potential long term damage that has been associated with Zyban. Those using NRT are know to have to try to quit on average six times before succeeding, thereby investing heavily in substitute products and addictive chemicals, before developing a stronger will or abandoning any belief in quitting altogether.

Studies in America have shown that hypnosis is the most effective method of stopping smoking for good with an 85% success rate in just one session!

This contrasts with the low rates of 10% success for those using nicotine gum and 6% compared with willpower alone. (Mathews, R (1992) New Scientist, Vol. 136, No. 1845, p.6).

To find the most effective method to stop smoking Frank Schmidt and research student Chockalingham Viswesvaran from the university of Iowa used a meta-analysis, utilising the results of more than 600 studies totalling nearly 72,000 people.

The results, which were published in the Journal of Applied Psychology and included 48 studies of hypnosis covering 6,000 smokers, clearly showed that hypnosis, to use the same terminology as the quit counsellor, was three times more effective than NRT.

If you have a real desire to give up smoking and you want more information on how desire for change can help you. Hypnosis is derived from hypnos being the Greek term for sleep James Braid coined “hypnosis” around 1840,the Greeks having used sleep temples back in 4000 BC. Relaxation of the conscious mind would have been a more accurate description.

So whilst undergoing hypnotherapy many clients may assume they are in a state of “sleep” and undergoing “therapy” all at the same time. Very few if any smokers undertake “therapy” for stop smoking. However hypnotherapy does realign feelings, which stem form the subconscious to a more positive state, and gives an all-important edge when it comes to becoming a non-smoker or breaking a habit. So the name hypnosis is really a misnomer.

Stage hypnosis is based on entertainment, suggestibility and illusion. An impression is thereby given it is an external state, which is the opposite of what it really is an internalised state. Therefore people can be wary of hypnotherapy.

Hypnotherapy is a process whereby you are working with a person to help instil a superior form of physical and mental relaxation to help realign the all powerful emotions to a more positive go forward state.

This is referred to as trance state, by bypassing the conscious mind and critical faculty. We do this every day when driving a car, reading a book of if we come emotional. Difference is hypnotherapy is a process, which undertakes this state in a controlled setting with a fee-paying results expectant client.

As hypnotherapy is a powerful process working with the subconscious/right side of the brain we refer to it as “right brain coaching”. This is a more accurate description of the work that we do.

For further information about hypnosis or how hypnotherapy can help you.
