No smoking day - 14th March

Have you tried to give up smoking before and just found it too hard? Is it the cravings, or is it breaking the habit of smoking, or is it the only thing that relaxes you? Well there is an answer.

At desire for change we understand how difficult it is to stop smoking. It is not surprising as each cigarette you smoke releases over 4,000 chemicals into your bloodstream and over 50 of them are known to cause cancer (carcinogenic). Also many of these chemicals are designed to keep you hooked and wanting more! Hypnotherapy is a highly effective way of becoming a non-smoker, as it helps you to focus on your desire to stop smoking, as well helping to you totally relax. ‘Hypnosis is the most effective way of giving up smoking, according to the largest ever scientific comparison of ways of breaking the habit. Willpower, it turns out, counts for very little’. (New Scientist, Volume 136 issue 1845 31 Oct 1992, page 6)

At desire for change we use a tried and trusted method to ensure results for our clients that last. Stop smoking hypnotherapy sessions are therefore booked, as a block of 3. At the first stop smoking hypnotherapy session the habit is broken. It does not matter how many you used to smoke a day or for how long you have smoked. All you need is a high desire factor for the stop smoking hypnotherapy suggestions to work. Subconscious hypnotherapy programming for stop smoking works if you want the suggestions to work. The reality is that there are no easy quick fixes and you cannot make anyone do something that they do not want to do. The two follow up sessions will empower you to become a non-smoker for life, also to reinforce those sessions we will also include a CD or download of your last session.

Using Hypnotherapy for stop smoking is a state of enhanced physical and mental relaxation, which allows stop smoking Hypnotherapy suggestions access to the subconscious mind, which is where they work by realigning your feelings to a more positive state. They work because they change your feelings towards smoking. You feel better being a non-smoker. Also you will not replace smoking with eating or drinking too much, so you won’t have the fear of putting on weight. Smoking becomes a thing of the past and you forget all about it.

One of the reasons hypnotherapy is so effective is that it utilises readiness for change. Therefore whether you are stopping smoking for health reasons, financial reasons or the sake of your family, as long as you have decided to give up and are ready to change, hypnosis is for you.

What my client’s have to say:

"Having smoked for about 20 years, I really wanted to quit for the sake of my health and my family. I never thought it would be possible to have a 1 hour meeting and walk away as a permanent non-smoker - but that is exactly what happened to me almost 5 months ago! I feel cleaner, fresher, more alert and I've regained my taste buds (I also visit cash machines less frequently and drink less alcohol). Like anything new, Hypnotherapy did make me feel a little nervous at first. However, it is nothing to be afraid of - just let yourself go. Also, the 2 follow up sessions are great to reinforce the messages. If you are serious about giving up smoking, i.e. you WANT to quit (don't think you "should" quit), pluck up the courage and contact Ali." Thank you Anoop

“I thought I would never give up smoking! Even with bad health (high blood pressure, high cholesterol and needing to lose weight), I still couldn’t do it on my own. I was a bit skeptical about whether hypnotherapy could really help me be a non-smoker. Once I met Ali and she explained how hypnotherapy worked, I just knew it would work. I have now been a non-smoker for nearly two years and I am feeling healthier and fitter than I have been for years. If you have been thinking about giving up smoking or having hypnotherapy I would definitely recommend Ali”. Kind regards James

“Ali I just wanted to thank you for you help in making me a non-smoker. I really enjoyed my sessions and I can’t believe after years of smoking I am now a non-smoker. I feel more confident, healthier and as a Mum this is really important to me”. Thanks Janet

how hypnotherapy can help change your life

I meet the most interesting people in my role as a Hypnotherapist and I love receiving updates from clients telling me how they are getting on since their hypnotherapy sessions.

Sue came to me regarding weight loss and hypnotherapy helped her lose weight and so much more! This is what Sue had to say about how hypnotherapy helped her change her life!

'I found Ali via the internet when I was desperately looking to lose some after Christmas pounds, and also after holiday pounds from last year.

The website was very informative and seemed to be just what I needed. The weight has slowly been creeping up since I began the menopause, and it was harder and harder to lose and to keep off.

I had a chat with Ali on the phone and she sounded genuinely caring and confident that she could help me.

We met up and had a long talk, and then as I found that I was very relaxed and happy in her company, I decided to go ahead with the three week course. Well, the hypnotherapy was very relaxing and easy. I didn't fall asleep. I was totally aware of all Ali had to say to me. When she woke me, I was in a very serene state of calmness, and confident that this was the start of something new.

As I was about 17 miles from my home, I decided to drive back on the motorway. I have a fear of motorway driving and rarely use it, but something told me I would be OK. I was a little nervous when I first got on, but soon calmed down and was very happy with myself when I got home. I was also able to drive to Ali's house and back on the next two appointments without a hitch.

I soon got into the way of eating that Ali suggested as it was very easy and I could eat anything that I wish as long as I don't have too much. I never feel hungry, and I can always stop eating when I know I have had enough. I have also been out for afternoon tea at Harrods and couldn't eat too much. I enjoyed what I had, and that was that. This programme has given me the power to control my emotions to a great extent, and I no longer worry about work when I am at home and I can also cope better with my mother whom I love dearly, but can be a bit trying sometimes. Not her fault, just her age.

As for the weight, I have lost about 8 pounds so far, and know that I can lose a bit more if I need too. I am not so concerned now that I have found a way of living that suits me. I don't feel hungry and I don't use the word diet in relation to myself any more.

Ali, you are an angel, and I am thankful to you for all your help and guidance'.

How Hypnotherapy can help you fulfill your New Year’s resolutions.

As another year is upon us, are you like many other people filled with a wonderful sense of optimism and determination about reaching your goals and resolutions this coming year? This is the year you are going to make it happen and when making your New Year resolutions you really believe you can do it this time! However, like many people you find the initial enthusiasm lasts for a day or so, maybe even a week. Then something happens and that determination starts to slip and it becomes easier to stay as you are.

But why should that be? Why is it that so many people have amazing dreams of how their lives could be better, whether your goal is stop smoking, lose weight, become more confident or reduce how stressed you always feel? However, somehow they just can't make them come true. Your dreams just seem to slip away, leaving you feeling frustrated and disappointed that you can’t change. Even though you don’t like the way you feel, it is just easier somehow to stick with old habits or stay in a rut rather than embrace change.

Have you ever wondered why your New Years resolutions don’t seem to last? Why the year’s gym membership you have signed up for is only used to February 1st (if you are lucky)? Why you are smoking again just after your New Years Day lunch? The answer is quite simple, it is about habits. We are creatures of habit, our subconscious is on autopilot throughout the day. For example, Breakfast subconsciously relates to having a cigarette, coffee subconsciously relates to having a biscuit (or two), your evening meal subconsciously relates to having chocolate as soon as you finished your meal etc.

We all have habits and unfortunately habits are so hard to break consciously, because they are ingrained into the subconscious (the most powerful part of the mind). You may want to change more than anything, however you always feel like you are fighting against something. And that is exactly what you are doing. Your subconscious mind still wants to eat too much, or smoke, or is not very confident. This makes any change very difficult and in some cases near impossible. That is why generally diets don’t work for weight loss and stopping smoking on your own is notoriously difficult.

This is why in my experience the best way to break a habit and make a change is by using hypnotherapy. As a qualified Hypnotherapist I use suggestion directly to the subconscious mind, which aligns your subconscious with conscious mind and your goal. This allows you to reach your goal easily, effortlessly and naturally. Therefore fulfilling your New Year’s resolution and living your life the way you desire.

If you would like to talk about breaking a habit and making a positive change to your life, instead of making the same New Year resolutions every year - Contact Ali Gatenby on 07875 652338 or ali@desireforchange.co.uk

what can I expect from hypnotherapy sessions at desire for change?

At desire for change we want our clients to be totally at ease and really enjoy their hypnotherapy sessions. We believe in empowering our clients and giving clients the tools to make the changes they want. Therefore before any hypnotherapy starts we discuss with our clients what their individual requirements and goals are. As well as our fees and number of sessions required, which is confirmed by email with our terms of business.

We encourage clients to have a free initial consultation, which takes about 30 minutes. This initial consultation can be either on the phone or in person. If in person it can be just before the first session or clients can arrange their first session for another time, it is totally up to you. At the first hypnotherapy session the client’s requirements and goals are discussed, looking at how we think affects the way we behave. At desire for change we believe it is important to comprehensively explain the techniques used. This is essential for the client to fully understand what is happening and why, thus allowing them to have confidence in the process and relax.

A full and comprehensive explanation of the session is undertaken so clients know that a trance state was engaged and communication with the subconscious mind did take place. This is important for the follow up session whereby clients usually go much deeper into trance. This enables a deeper relaxation and allowing greater access to the subconscious. Hypnotherapy is a technique that is totally relaxing it should not be surrounded by mystique and misunderstanding.

Most clients have 3 sessions which are usually held at weekly intervals, as this gives the best long term results. If you need more than 3 sessions this will be discussed at the initial consultation, so there will be no surprises. The subconscious mind loves repetition and simple, direct and clean language delivered by a professionally trained hypnotic voice. This allied to a strong desire factor for readiness for change can achieve great results.

As part of our 3 session package we provide a hypnotherapy download or CD once you have completed your sessions.

can't sleep - you are not alone!

I have helped many clients overcome problems of not being able to get a good night’s sleep. We all have the odd night that we can’t sleep or have periods in our lives that sleep is more difficult (i.e. a new baby). However some people just don’t know what it's like to fall asleep when their head hits the pillow and have 8 hours sleep!

Sleep is really important to functioning properly and feeling ourselves. The effects of sleep deprivation can be:

• Fatigue, lethargy, and lack of motivation
• Moodiness and irritability
• Reduced creativity and problem-solving skills
• Inability to cope with stress
• Reduced immunity; frequent colds and infections
• Concentration and memory problems
• Weight gain
• Impaired motor skills and increased risk of accidents
• Difficulty making decisions
• Increased risk of diabetes, heart disease, and other health problems

Hypnotherapy can help you relax and have a good night’s sleep you yearn for. Especially if you are stressed or your mind works overtime as soon as your head hits the pillow.

Nevertheless there are things you can do to help yourself get a good night's sleep:

1. Stick to a schedule. Sticking to a schedule allows your body to set its internal rhythm so your body knows it time to sleep and you consistently get enough sleep every night. Also, make sure you try to keep the same schedule on weekends too; otherwise it will disrupt your internal rhythm.

2. Sleep only at night. Avoid daytime sleep if possible. Daytime naps steal hours from nighttime slumber. If you need to take a nap limit daytime sleep to a 20-minute power nap.

3. Exercise. It’s well known that exercise helps you sleep better. Twenty to thirty minutes of exercise every day can help you sleep, but be sure not to exercise too late in the evening. Exercise stimulates the body and aerobic activity before bedtime may make falling asleep more difficult.

4. Taking a hot shower or bath before bed helps bring on sleep because they can relax tense muscles.

5. Avoid eating just before bed. Give yourself at least 2 hours from when you eat to when you sleep. This allows for digestion to happen (or at least start) well before you go to sleep so your body can rest well during the night, rather than churning away your food.

6. Avoid caffeine. It keeps you awake and that’s not what you want for a good nights sleep. Also if you drink alcohol, keep it to one drink. As one relaxes you, more will stimulate you system and keep you awake.

7. Read a fiction book. It takes you to a whole new world if you really get into it. And then you can take some time to ponder over the book as you fall asleep.

8. Have your bedroom slightly cooler. Do not have your room too warm as this encourages your to wake. Our inner clock wakes when it’s warmer and lighter (i.e. morning).

9. De-clutter your bedroom. Your bedroom should be clutter free and a calming environment. Your bedroom should be for sleeping with no upbeat music or TV.

10. If you can’t sleep don’t worry about it. If you are just lying in bed tossing and turning, don’t get annoyed with yourself. Try getting up for a little while, then going back to bed. Maybe the time you go to bed is too early for you. Some people are larks and others are owls. If you can’t sleep and you may be going to bed earlier and earlier as you are tired. However if you are a night owl this will make it even harder to go to sleep.

One of the important things is not to label yourself as a person who has problems sleeping, the more you do this the more your conscious and unconscious will believe it. Remember you are what you think! You need to relax and not worry about not sleeping.

Hypnotherapy is total relaxation, relaxation of the mind and body. Therefore it is extremely helpful with aiding sleep. I also teach my clients self hypnosis, which is a great tool if you are prone to waking during the night.

If you would like to find out more about how hypnotherapy can help you get the night's sleep you can only wish for. Please contact Ali Gatenby on 07875 652338 or ali@desireforchange.co.uk for a free initial consultation.

weight loss with hypnotherapy

Are you fed up with constantly trying to lose weight? Are you always looking out for the next great diet plan? Do you constantly tell yourself what you can eat and more often than not what you cannot eat? Do you find losing weight the usual uphill struggle and battle?

Weight loss for some can be never ending, each new diet or new re-cycled diet offers the same feelings of being deprived and that you are missing out! Unfortunately all these diets works on the starvation principle of some sort, either by drastically reduced calories, or cutting out whole food groups. Whichever diet you choose it's a recipe for disaster. This is because diets slow down the metabolism, after 4 days of a diet (starvation) the body shuts down and goes into starvation mode protecting the very calories you are trying to loose.

When your metabolism slows right down, you feel lethargic and crave the sugary and fatty foods. Then when you start eating again the weight piles back on and with a slower metabolism the pounds will keep piling back on. Anybody been there before??

With all these fad diets being splashed across all forms of media we do not get to hear what dieticians and experts are trying to tell us, that the body likes and needs fat, it serves a useful propose. It supplies us with a food store that we need for healthy skin, hormones, nervous system and it also keeps us warm. Furthermore the subconscious mind still acts as if we were in the cave and we have a need for fat.

The main problem with diets is that none of them address your relationship to food, which is the underlining reason why most people just can't lose and maintain their weight. Overeating is often associated with emotional issues that are still there after you have dieted and it's these emotional issues which contribute to putting the weight back on.

Hypnotherapy & Desire for Change can help you lose weight easily, safely & without dieting. We help you to understand why you are overeating, realign your mind and body so you eat what your body needs. By using hypnotherapy, I can help you uncover the emotional issues which were producing this effect. Making emotional overeating a thing of the past, which will enable you to keep the weight off and feel good about yourself.

Everybody knows what we should and shouldn't eat. We understand that a balanced healthy diet is the best way to maintain a healthy weight. However the key is feeling good about doing it. Unfortunately we live in an age where we want easy, instant miracle diets offering absurd amounts of weight loss in a matter of days or weeks. You won’t be able to lose weight long term this way, you will just be on a constant yo-yo diet, which is extremely bad for your health. I have helped many clients to lose weight who have tried every diet under the sun and feel bad about themselves as they just can't lose weight!

To make these true, permanent changes in your life, it is necessary to get your subconscious mind in agreement with what you want to accomplish, rather than fighting and struggling to work against it. Hypnosis will have you wanting to eat the right kinds of foods, wanting to drink more water and wanting to be more active. Hypnosis is a process whereby you can work with the body and feel good about doing the things that you know you should be doing. Once you are into a rhythm the weight comes off, slowly, naturally, safely and stays off.

The desire for change approach will inspire confidence and self esteem. This serves to increase the likelihood of the client continuing with these new behavioural patterns long after the therapy has finished. However, for the therapy to be effective the most important thing is your desire to lose weight and to keep it off. Every client is given their own personal CD or download of their session to listen to at home. This will help you to maintain your new lifestyle.

Lose weight once not a hundred times!!
